Gastroenterology Department

Overview

As the earliest established pediatric digestive specialty in China, Gastroenterology Department has formed a professional system integrating specialty wards, specialist outpatient clinics, digestive endoscopy room, gastrointestinal motility, digestive laboratories and clinical nutrition management team. There are 6 chief physicians, 3 deputy chief physicians, 7 attending physicians, 8 resident physicians, 1 doctoral tutor, 2 master tutors, and 20 specialized nurses in the department with 50 beds. More than 3,000 inpatients are received, and more than 4,500 cases of digestive endoscopy are conducted per year with 50 beds.

The diagnosis and treatment of pediatric digestive system diseases in the department has reached the domestic leading level, and it is the first to carry out new technologies in the diagnosis and treatment of pediatric digestive diseases, including gastrointestinal endoscope, digestive tract motility examination, percutaneous liver biopsy, capsule endoscopy, parenteral nutrition, enteral nutrition treatment etc.  A series of standardized diagnosis and treatment (including nutritional treatment) for the digestive system diseases have been developed, and a large number of complicated and critically ill children have been successfully treated.

 


Service

(1) Outpatient consultation: chronic abdominal pain, gastroesophageal reflux, chronic gastritis, peptic ulcer, gastrointestinal bleeding, acute diarrhea, persistent chronic diarrhea, necrotizing enterocolitis, inflammatory bowel disease, functional dyspepsia, recurrent vomiting, nutritional treatment of functional constipation, food allergic gastrointestinal diseases, various liver diseases, cholestasis, pancreatitis, peritonitis, and digestive system diseases;

(2) Clinical nutrition management: standardized management of nutritional therapy for children with intestinal failure, chronic diarrhea, short bowel syndrome, inflammatory bowel disease, and feeding disorders;

(3) Routine electronic gastroscopy, electronic colonoscopy, double balloon enteroscopy, intraoperative endoscopy, capsule endoscopy, 24-hour esophageal pH and impedance measurement, esophageal motility measurement, lower gastrointestinal motility measurement, percutaneous liver biopsy, carbon 13 urea breath test and other examinations, digestive tract polyps high-frequency electrocoagulation removal, gastrointestinal bleeding and hemostasis (including spraying, ligation, sclerosant injection, titanium clip), gastrointestinal foreign body removal, gastric torsion reduction, esophageal stenosis dilation, gastrointestinal tube placement, esophageal stent insertion and removal, percutaneous gastrostomy (jejunum) fistula, peroral endoscopic sphincterotomy (POEM), endoscopic duodenal septal incision, endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP), interventional ERCP technology, biofeedback treatment of functional constipation, etc.

It is responsible for formulating Pediatric gastroscopy colonoscopy operation specifications, Pediatric chronic gastritis, peptic ulcer treatment plan, Pediatric gastroesophageal reflux disease diagnosis and treatment plan, Children's diarrhea disease diagnosis and treatment expert consensus, Pediatric acute diarrhea nutrition treatment process, Pediatric milk protein allergy diagnosis and treatment guidelines, 2016 Chinese children's acute infectious diarrhea clinical practice guidelines, Pediatric inflammatory bowel disease diagnosis and treatment expert consensus and so on.



Research

The department attaches great importance to clinical scientific research in order to continuously improve the level of diagnosis and treatment. The main research directions are: pathogenesis and treatment of functional gastrointestinal diseases and inflammatory bowel disease; drug resistance and its mechanism of helicobacter pylori infection in children; pathogenesis of infantile cholestatic liver disease; multi-center clinical study for pediatric digestive diseases.
