Pulmonology Department
Overview
Pulmonology Department was officially established in 2001 with 100 beds. Its predecessor was pediatric respiratory diseases diagnosis and treatment group established in 1978. Currently, there are 10 chief physicians, 13 deputy chief physicians, and 17 attending physicians in the department, 10 of them with doctoral degrees and 26 with master degree, including, 2 doctoral supervisors and 5 master supervisors,. The professional nursing care is provided by 37 nurses with rich nursing knowledge and solid nursing skills.
With a high level of diagnosis and treatment of common and complicated pediatric respiratory diseases, this department was approved as the National Key Clinical Specialty in 2011, serving as the diagnosis and treatment center for pediatric respiratory diseases in Zhejiang Province and surrounding areas. The department emphasizes the rational application of antibacterial drugs, the standardized and individualized choice of asthma medication, detection of multiple pathogens of respiratory infection, allergen detection, exhaled NO measurement, skin prick test, immune function measurement, lung function test, specific immunotherapy, pediatric bronchoscopy, etc. Over 2,000 cases of bronchoscopy are performed annually.

Professional Features
In the process of clinical diagnosis and treatment, Pulmonology Department strictly follows standardized medical behavior norms, emphasizing rigorous evidence-based medicine, reasonable inspection and medication, especially the use of antibiotics, and the standardized and individualized asthma medication. At the same time, the new knowledge and technologies have been promoted and nearly 20 trainees from all over the country are trained in Pulmonology Department every year, serving as an important training base for pediatric respiratory medicine and bronchoscopy technology.
The department actively involves in the basic and clinical research to improve the diagnosis and treatment of pediatric respiratory diseases. From 2008 to 2019, a total of 14 of National Natural Science Foundation of China were granted (including 4 The National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars), focusing on the study of mechanism of bronchial asthma and mycoplasma pneumonia infection in children. 1 major science and technology project and 5 Natural Science Foundations in Zhejiang Province were granted.
The pulmonology team has participated in a number of national multi-center studies such as asthma, chronic cough, and interstitial lung disease, and in writing guidelines of National Anti-microbial Treatment Guideline, Pediatric Bronchial Asthma Diagnosis and Prevention Guideline (2008 And 2016 Editions), Guidelines for the management of community-acquired pneumonia in children (2019 Revision), Diagnosis and treatment of acute infectious rhino-sinusitis in children-clinical practice guide, Diagnosis and treatment of acute otitis media in children-clinical practice guide, etc.. The third prize of the Zhejiang Provincial Science and Technology Progress Award and the second prize of the Zhejiang Medical and Health Innovation Award have been gained.
