Nephrology Department
Overview
Started in 1978, the Nephrology Department was formally built in 2002. It is a key discipline in Zhejiang Province, a consultant unit of the Nephrology Group of the Pediatrics Branch of the Chinese Medical Association, a deputy director of the Nephrology Expert Committee of the Pediatric Branch of the Chinese Medical Association, the chairman of the Pediatric Branch of the Zhejiang Society of Integrated Chinese and Western Medicine and a deputy chairman of the Renal Disease Branch of Zhejiang Medical Association.
There is a clinical, scientific research, teaching and nursing team with more than 60 specialists in the department, including 9 chief physicians, 10 deputy chief physicians, among whom 1 is doctoral tutor and 2 master tutors. With 2 specialty wards, more than 60 specialty beds, 3 hemodialysis machines, the department treats more than 3300 inpatients of various types of kidney diseases every year, and more than 30,000 outpatients in specialist clinic

Professional Features
The department has rich clinical experience and specialty characteristics in the diagnosis and treatment of various refractory nephrotic syndrome, purpuric nephritis, hereditary glomerular disease, enuresis, chronic kidney disease and hyperuricemia.
The department was the first to implement percutaneous renal biopsy in pediatrics in the province in 1991. After 2000, the technology was improved to real-time positioning and guided puncture under B-ultrasound, with less damage and higher safety. In close cooperation with urology, intensive care unit and other departments, it actively carried out clinical rescue and blood purification, peritoneal dialysis and other treatment measures for critically ill patients with acute and chronic renal insufficiency, hemolytic uremic syndrome, rapid nephritis, etc. It explored the method of integrated Chinese and Western medicine, assisting in the treatment of various kidney diseases through traditional Chinese medicine, and has obtained rich clinical experience. In recent years, we have pioneered the world's largest cohort study on CAR-T cell therapy for pediatric SLE, achieving favorable clinical outcomes and notable social impact.
The Nephrology focuses on teaching and scientific research. It has long been responsible for the teaching of children's kidney diseases of the students in the eight-year, seven-year and five-year programs and foreign students of Zhejiang University School of Medicine. At the same time, it has undertaken clinical and basic research work on various types of kidney diseases in children, making outstanding contributions in the treatment of various refractory nephrotic syndromes, purpuric nephritis, and basic research on the pathogenesis of proteinuria. Besides, it has won ten National Natural Science Funds, two second prizes of the Zhejiang Provincial Government Science and Technology Award, one first prize and one second prize of Zhejiang Medicine and Health Science and Technology Innovation, and published 200 scientific research papers, including nearly 100 SCI papers.
