Overview

Department of Burn and Plastic Surgery

Founded in 1993, the Department of Burn and Plastic Surgery is among the earliest-established clinical departments of its kind in China. It has 47 authorized inpatient beds to date, with an annual volume of over 20,000 consultations at its specialist and expert outpatient clinics, more than 2,500 pediatric inpatients admitted, over 2,000 inpatient surgical procedures performed, and in excess of 400 day surgeries completed each year. The department’s clinical team comprises 18 nurses and 15 physicians, including 1 Chief Physician, 4 Associate Chief Physicians, 5 Attending Physicians and 5 Resident Physicians. Of the medical practitioners, 6 hold Doctor of Medicine degrees and 7 possess Master of Medicine degrees.

As the Zhejiang Pediatric Burn Treatment Center, a Governing Unit of the Zhejiang Plastic Surgery and Aesthetic Medicine Association, a Governing Unit of the China Hemangioma and Vascular Malformation Alliance, a Standing Committee Unit of the China Pediatric Hemangioma and Vascular Malformation Alliance, a Member Unit of the Peripheral Vascular Malformation Specialty Alliance of the Shanghai Ninth People's Hospital Group, as well as a Member Unit of both the Burn, Trauma and Wound Repair Specialty Alliance and the War Trauma Center Specialty Alliance of Shanghai Changhai Hospital, the department has long been dedicated to pediatric burn management, the repair of various acute and chronic wounds, and the correction of congenital malformations of all types, and its overall clinical strength ranks among the top tier in China.

The Outpatient Clinic for Superficial Tumor, Hemangioma and Plastic Surgery and the Outpatient Clinic for Burn Scar and Plastic Surgery operate on a full-day basis from Monday to Sunday at the Binjiang Campus, and on a full-day basis from Monday to Friday at the Hubin Campus.


Service

Birthmarks and Cutaneous Tumors

Sebaceous nevus, verrucous nevus, lipoma, pigmented nevus (including nail matrix nevus, palpebral fissure nevus, giant nevus, beast-like nevus, etc.), pilomatricoma, dermoid cyst, sebaceous cyst, neurofibroma, port-wine stain, café-au-lait spot, freckle, nevus of Ota, etc.

Congenital Structural Malformations

Cleft lip and palate, transverse facial cleft, micrognathia, hemifacial microsomia, auricular malformations (including microtia, protruding ear, cup ear, lop ear, earlobe cleft, etc.), webbed neck, polydactyly, syndactyly, macrodactyly, split hand/foot malformation, thumb reconstruction, craniofacial cleft, blepharophimosis, etc.

Hemangiomas and Vascular Malformations

Red birthmark, hemangioma, lymphangioma, venous malformation, arteriovenous malformation, and syndromes associated with hemangiomas and vascular malformations, etc.

Various Burns and Scalds

Flame burn, blast injury, hot liquid scald, electrical burn, chemical burn, low-temperature scald, mechanical crush injury, frostbite, etc.

Repair of Refractory Wounds

Various acute and chronic refractory wounds, such as skin and soft tissue necrosis and defect caused by congenital factors, trauma, infection, and post-interventional therapy.

Scars

Prevention and treatment of scar deformities at various parts of the body and in different stages, functional exercise, drug intervention, injection therapy, laser therapy, and surgical orthopedics.

Aesthetic Procedures

Minimally invasive radical surgery and injection therapy for bromhidrosis, blepharoplasty, correction of epicanthus, orthopedics of nasal tip, alar and columella deformities, hymenoplasty, plastic surgery for labial hypertrophy, hair transplantation, fat grafting, laser therapy for acne scars, etc.

It provides comprehensive and in-depth diagnosis and treatment for diseases, and is able to deliver professional and individualized comprehensive therapy tailored to the specific conditions of pediatric patients. We cover a broad spectrum of professional diseases, possess a full array of therapeutic modalities, and perform all clinical procedures with meticulous precision.



Research

The research team of our department has conducted in-depth research on the diagnosis and treatment of various diseases including cleft lip and palate, burn sepsis, hemangiomas, and scars. Team members, as principal investigators, have undertaken a number of research projects funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China, provincial and ministerial-level research programs, as well as postdoctoral research funds. The department has published 10 SCI-indexed papers with a total impact factor (IF) of 20, and 10 papers in core academic journals at the first tier.
