Pioneering Sino-Thai Medical Exchange: Thai Pediatric Residents Complete Landmark Training at ZCH
From March 2 to 27, Zhejiang University Children's Hospital (ZCH) welcomed four distinguished pediatric residents from Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, one of the most prestigious medical institutions in Thailand, for a comprehensive clinical training program. The visiting physicians - Dr. Chatchanok Boonrassamee, Dr. Nattapon Jongkitsomboon, Dr. Neera Sarapee, and Dr. Phattiya Nimmankiatkul - engaged in an intensive four-week rotation that marked a significant milestone in international medical collaboration in pediatric medicine between China and Thailand.
The program built upon the strategic partnership established during Professor Fu Junfen's official visit to Mahidol University in 2024. Throughout their rotation, the Thai residents gained invaluable clinical experience across multiple specialties, including neurology department, emergency department, PICU and NICU. In the Neurology Department, under Dr. Mao Shanshan's guidance, they acquired expertise in advanced diagnostic techniques for spinal muscular atrophy and comprehensive patient management protocols. In ER, Dr. Wu Xiujing and Dr. Zhang Xianghong provided hands-on training in pediatric trauma resuscitation and emergency response systems. In PICU and NICU, Dr. Chen Zhenjie and Dr. Chen Zheng facilitated specialized training in cutting-edge life support technologies and critical care management. The Thai residents demonstrated professionalism throughout their rotation, Their supervising faculty particularly commended the depth of their medical knowledge and clinical acumen.
Beyond clinical rotations, the program featured several unexpected academic exchanges. The residents participated in an exclusive demonstration of ZCH's AI-powered bone age analysis system, attended the U.S.-China Pediatric Specialist Excellence Training Program provided by Boston Children's Hospital, and shared insights about Thailand's healthcare system during a cultural exchange session. These activities not only enhanced clinical knowledge but also fostered meaningful cross-cultural dialogue about pediatric care approaches.
Prof. Fu Junfen, President of hospital met with the residents to commend their contributions and emphasized their role as ambassadors for Sino-Thai medical collaboration and looked forward to their continued contribution in advancing pediatric medicine in both countries through this collaborative effort. "We hope this experience will inspire lasting partnerships to advance child health in both nations," she remarked.
As a national children's medical center and the pediatric flagship of Zhejiang University School of Medicine, ZCH continues to strengthen its position at the forefront of clinical innovation, medical education, and translational research in China. The success of this training program has laid a solid foundation for future collaboration, representing an important step forward in the hospital's internationalization strategy and its mission to advance pediatric care worldwide.
