The Zhejiang-Hong Kong Joint Laboratory on Reproductive Health of Children and Adolescents was Established at ZCH

On July 19, the launch ceremony and academic conference of the Zhejiang-Hong Kong Joint Laboratory on Reproductive Health of Children and Adolescents was held at the Binjiang Campus of the Children's Hospital of Zhejiang University School of Medicine (ZCH). The event brought together leaders from Zhejiang Provincial Department of Science and Technology and the Health Commission, and authoritative experts in pediatrics and reproductive medicine, from Zhejiang and Hong Kong. The gathering aimed to establish an international collaborative innovation platform for children's and adolescents' reproductive health. Ni Xin, President of Beijing Children's Hospital, Symphorosa Shing Chee Chan, Head of Obstetrics and Gynecology Department, Prince of Wales Hospital, Hong Kong; and Karen Ng, gynecologist at Prince of Wales Hospital and President of the Asia-Pacific Society for Pediatric and Adolescent Gynecology (AOSPAG), attended the conference. And Prof. Mao Jianhua, President of ZCH, hosted the conference.

 

Huang Hefeng, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Director of the School of Medicine and Pharmacy at Zhejiang University, a renowned expert in reproductive medicine serves as the Honorary Director of the joint laboratory. She delivered a speech on challenges in fertility preservation and solutions. She emphasized that the research on reproductive health of children and adolescents can extend the research on zygote-originated diseases to the childhood and adolescence stages, forming a complete research loop covering "zygote - fetus - adolescence".

 

Zhang Weifang, Director of the joint laboratory and Chairman of ZCH, stated in her speech that female health profoundly affects the next generation through "transgenerational transmission", and the childhood and adolescence stages are the key windows for consolidating the foundation of female reproductive health. The laboratory will build a "prevention, screening, diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation" integrated three-level prevention system, filling the research and service gaps in female reproductive health for children and adolescents.

 

Cheung Yiu-fai, Chair of the Department of Child and Adolescent Science at Li Ka Shing Faculty of Medicine, The University of Hong Kong, and Co-Director of the laboratory, serve as the Co-director of the joint laboratory. He called for promoting in-depth disciplinary integration of pediatrics, obstetrics and gynecology, endocrinology, cardiology, surgery, etc., to insure the health of children.
