The West Lake Symposium on Pediatric Cardiovascular Diseases Successfully Held
On October 27-28, 2023, the "West Lake Symposium on Pediatric Cardiovascular Diseases - Comprehensive Treatment of End-stage Heart Failure in Children" was successfully held in Hangzhou. The conference was sponsored by National Clinical Research Center for Child Health and Zhejiang Maternal and Child Health Association, and hosted by Children's Hospital of Zhejiang University School of Medicine (ZCH) and Binjiang Research Institute of Zhejiang University.
The meeting was presided over by Fan Xiangming, Director of Cardiac Surgery Department of ZCH. Prof. Hu Shengshou, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and President of Fuwai Hospital, delivered a speech. Academician Hu pointed out that improving the diagnosis and treatment level of end-stage heart failure in children in China is an important issue related to children's health; He also congratulated and appreciated the achievements made by ZCH in pediatric artificial heart and heart transplantation in recent years. Later, Professor Kenneth Liao, Director of Cardiac Surgery at Baylor College of Medicine, Texas Medical Center, USA, delivered a speech on the importance, opportunities and challenges of comprehensive treatment of end-stage heart failure in children. Then, Professor Shu Qiang, Chairman of the conference and Secretary of the Party Committee of ZCH, delivered a speech, expressed sincere thanks to the guests and announced the opening of the conference.
This conference gathered famous experts and scholars in the field of pediatric cardiovascular diseases at home and abroad. Lectures about the surgical treatment, perioperative management, ultrasound evaluation and the progress of single ventricular surgery in children with end-stage heart failure were delivered and heated discussion were fueled. Dr. Iki Adachi, Cardiac Surgery at Texas Children's Hospital, introduced the hospital's experience in pediatric heart transplantation and the clinical application of artificial hearts as a leading children's heart center. Professor Shu Qiang, Director of the Heart Center of ZCH, delivered a speech on the clinical application of ventricular assist devices in children with end-stage heart failure. Dr. Lin Ru, deputy director of the Heart Center of ZCH, reported three cases of ventricular assist device implantation in ZCH. Prof. Yiu Fai Cheung, Li Ka-shing School of Medicine, University of Hong Kong, Prof. Marcus Schamberger, Riley Children's Hospital, USA, Prof. Pierre Wong, Children's Hospital of Los Angeles, Prof. Oktavia Lilyasari, National Cardiovascular Center, Indonesia were invited to deliver lectures at the conference.
