Urology Surgery Department was formally established in April 2001, separated from Pediatric Surgery which was founded in 1960. With the rapid development and growth of the discipline, it has developed as one of the largest pediatric urological disease diagnosis and treatment centers in China. The department has two wards with 96 beds, including 4 VIP rooms. The annual urology specialist outpatient visits exceeded 120,000. More than 6,500 inpatients have been admitted and over 6,000 operations have been performed annually, 80% among which were Grade 3 and 4 surgeries. The employees in the department have been invited to record special programs on CCTV, and science programs on local TV stations.

In the past 20 years, with the popularization of prenatal ultrasound screening and high detection rate of urogenital malformations, the department actively participated in the multidisciplinary joint outpatient clinic of Zhejiang Prenatal Diagnosis Center, accumulating a large number of prenatal diagnosis of various genitourinary malformations. The experience allowed most of the genitourinary malformations to be diagnosed immediately before delivery, which laid a solid foundation for prenatal consultation and timely treatment after birth.
