E.N.T. Department

Overview

ENT department is composed of 18 specialist doctors, 4 professional audiologists and 2 specialized nurses. Among them, there are 1 chief physician, 2 vice chief physicians, 7 attending physicians, and 8 resident physicians; one of them with doctoral degree and 14 with master degree. There are more than 130,000 outpatient visits and about 29,000 hearing tests every year.

The ENT team has rich experience in the diagnosing and treating children with ear, nose, throat, tracheoesophageal and head and neck diseases, and in special inspection items such as nasal endoscopy, allergic rhinitis allergen determination, fibrolaryngoscope examination, sleep monitoring, deafness genetic testing, and hearing function testing. It has more than 40 beds, with more than 2,500 operations per year. The hospital is the National Cochlear Implanted Surgery Hospital and the Zhejiang Disabled Persons' Federation “Survival Rehabilitation Project for Poverty and Disabled Children” Cochlear Implanted Surgery Hospital and Zhejiang Deaf Children Rehabilitation Screening Surgery Hospital. It has helped more than 800 children with cochlear implants. In 2019, led by the department, Health Commission of Zhejiang Province passed the establishment of Zhejiang Children's Ear and Hearing Health Center, as well as Zhejiang Children's Otolaryngology Head and Neck Disease Diagnostic and Therapy Alliance with more than 60 hospitals.


Service

The services in the department cover five major categories: otology, rhinology, throat science, tracheoesophagus, head and neck surgery.

Outpatient service: ear, nose, throat, tracheoesophagus, and head and neck diseases.

Surgical scope:

 Ear: radical mastoidectomy, tympanoplasty and osseous bone implantation, cochlear implantation, eustachian tube dilatation, early noninvasive correction of auricle deformity, congenital anterior ear fistula resection, tympanic catheterization (including tympanic membrane puncture and incision), accessory ear resection, auricle cyst resection, ear trauma debridement and suture, external ear canal foreign body removal, etc.

Nose: sinusitis, nasal endoscopic surgery, sinus balloon dilatation, endoscopic decompression under the nose, posterior nostril atresia, nasal mass resection, nasal trauma debridement and suture, nasal foreign body removal, etc.

Throat: tonsillectomy, adenoidectomy, laryngeal cystectomy, fiber laryngoscope, laryngeal papilloma resection, congenital laryngeal softening, laryngotracheal stenosis, piriformis fistula, etc.

Trachea: respiratory foreign body removal, tracheotomy, etc.

Neck: thyroglossal duct cyst surgery, neck tumor diagnosis and treatment, etc.

Cochlear implantation, eustachian tube dilatation, early noninvasive correction of auricle deformity, sinus balloon dilatation, posterior nostril atresia.


Professional Features

The precision imported instruments and equipment in the department: Leica Ms-2 surgical microscope; Explorent ear surgery micro-instrument, laryngeal surgery micro-instrument and camera display system; Bienair micro multifunctional power system; Medtronic otolaryngology integrated power system; Olypus fiber nasopharyngoscope; Mega comprehensive treatment table; Storz nasal endoscope and camera display system, etc. It can complete the diagnosis and treatment of various common diseases of pediatric otolaryngology head and neck surgery, especially congenital laryngeal wheezing, hearing impairment, auricle deformity; respiratory tract foreign bodies, laryngeal papilloma, snoring diseases and other diseases.

Currently, it has soundproof rooms and electromagnetic shielding rooms that meet the national hearing testing standards, equipped with pure tone audiometry rooms, acoustic impedance test rooms, auditory evoked potential test rooms, hearing screening rooms, behavior test rooms, hearing aid programming rooms, cochlear implant debugging room, etc.;  it also equipped with diagnostic pure-tone audiometer, multi-frequency detection acoustic impedance instrument, diagnostic otoacoustic emission instrument, automatic brainstem evoked potential, diagnostic auditory brainstem evoked potential and multi-frequency steady-state evoked potential instrument. Therefore, it can operate neurological examinations, including pure tone audiometry, acoustic impedance, screening and diagnostic otoacoustic emissions, auditory brainstem evoked potentials, multi-frequency steady-state evoked potentials, automatic brainstem evoked potentials; and projects, including behavior testing, game audiometry and language assessment.

 



Research

ENT Department is responsible for the clinical, teaching and scientific research tasks of pediatric otolaryngology head and neck surgery.
