Urology Department
Overview
The Department of Pediatric Surgery was formally established in 1960, diagnosing and treating various diseases about pediatric surgery. With the development and growth of the discipline, Urology was formally completed in April 2001, which has now developed as one of the largest pediatric urological disease diagnosis and treatment centers in China. At present, the annual outpatient volume of specialists and experts exceeded 100,000. The department has 80 specialist beds in two wards, which will be expanded to 96 beds, including 4 VIP rooms in two years after the Phase II construction of Binjiang Campus. In recent years, more than 4,000 inpatients have been admitted each year, and more than 4,000 hospitalizations have been performed annually, 80% among which were Grade 3 and 4 surgeries. There are more than 3 separate operating rooms per day. With more than 3 separate operating rooms, there were more than 500 day-time operations and more than 7,000 outpatient minor operations in the department every year. There are 1 chief physician, 1 master tutor, 9 deputy chief physicians, 9 attending physicians in the department, among whom 13 are doctors.
The department has published more than 100 articles in top professional journals at home and abroad, and conducted regular academic exchanges with experts from the United States, Canada, and Germany. The employees in the department have been invited twice to record special programs on CCTV, and invited many times to record science programs on local TV stations.
In the past 20 years, with the popularization of prenatal ultrasound screening and high detection rate of urogenital malformations, the department actively participated in the multidisciplinary joint outpatient clinic of Zhejiang Prenatal Diagnosis Center, accumulating a large number of prenatal diagnosis of various genitourinary malformations. The experience allowed most of the genitourinary malformations to be diagnosed immediately before delivery, which laid a good foundation for prenatal consultation and timely treatment after birth.

Urinary surgery for children from newborn to 18 years old, including renal duplication, hydronephrosis, hydroureter, contusion and laceration of kidney, urinary calculi, renal mass disease, ureteral cyst, abnormal opening of ureter, ureteral reflux of bladder, bladder tumor, neurogenic bladder, urinary incontinence bladder eversion, supraurethral fissure (boys, girls), hypospadias, urethral valve, urethral diverticulum, urethral trauma, urethral stricture, urethra cyst, cryptorchidism (intra-abdominal type, inguinal type, sliding type), hydrocele, testicular tumor, testicular torsion, penile scrotum transposition, phimosis, hidden penis, varicose veins, sexual dysplasia, external genitalia, masculine orthopedics (very severe hypospadias, small penis, scrotum complete translocation) and feminine orthopedics (preservation of the white membrane clitoris shortening, plastic surgery, large and small labiaplasty), oblique vaginal septum syndrome, vaginal atresia, bladder vaginal fistula, urethral vaginal fistula, etc.

Professional Features
(1)Hypospadias: The senior doctors can perform proficient high-quality surgical treatment of various types of hypospadias with different degrees of severity, and more than 600 cases of operation should be operated in the department.
(2)Sexual abnormality (hermaphrodism): With a low incidence, the diseases have complicated conditions and a variety of causes. At present, the hospital accepts more than 120 patients from all over the country every year and accumulated rich clinical experience. Therefore, it can perform individualized assessment of each child with sexual dysplasiacan, cooperating with endocrinology, pediatric genetics, psychology, pediatric gynecology, and medical iconography, according to the latest international assessment requirements. The multidisciplinary team also discusses the gender determination of the child with the parents, and can perform plastic surgery on various severe external genital deformities according to the latest international concepts to restore the child to the male or daughter body, so that the child can enter the kindergarten cheerfully.
(3)Diagnosis and treatment of upper urinary tract malformations: Through continuous learning and external communication, the department can always treat children with various types of upper urinary tract malformations according to the latest international concepts. Over the years, it has accumulated rich clinical experience, carrying out various types of minimally invasive surgery, including laparoscopic surgery and robot-assisted surgery. Next year, the hospital will be equipped with the latest American Da Vinci robots, which will be the first children's hospital in China, and then ultra-fine minimally invasive surgery can be performed in the hospital.
(4)Prenatal diagnosis of urogenital malformations: Having been participated in the multidisciplinary consultation of Zhejiang Provincial Prenatal Diagnosis Center for 17 years, the department has accumulated the experience of more than 5,000 cases. It can give about 90% diagnosis accuracy and prognosis evaluation for more than 10 kinds of genitourinary malformations during fetal period, providing obstetricians and pregnant families with more accurate and more reliable prenatal consultation. After birth of children, it can develop an appropriate postnatal assessment strategy and appropriate age treatment plan according to the latest international relevant guidelines for each child.

Based on clinical practice, both scientific research and teaching have been carried out by the department. It obtained 2 sub-projects of national major R & D projects, more than 10 provincial-level projects, published more than 120 papers at home and abroad, including 21 SCI papers, whose total impact factor score exceeds 40 points, and more than 90 core journals.
