ZCH Became the National Characteristic Construction Unit of Maternal Fetal Medicine Integrated Management of Fetal Heart Disease
On December 2, the National Health Commission issued a document, making it clear that 14 teams from 8 provinces (cities) across the country, a total of 24 units, were listed as the first batch of national characteristic construction units of maternal fetal medicine integrated management of fetal heart disease, including the children's Hospital of Zhejiang University School of Medicine (ZCH) together with Zhejiang University Women’s Hospital.
“Screening, diagnosis, prenatal and postpartum integrated management can systematically promote the prevention and treatment of congenital heart disease, and further reduce the mortality of children with congenital heart disease. The National Characteristic Construction Unit of Maternal Fetal Medicine Integrated Management of Fetal Heart Disease is very important to the overall prevention and treatment of congenital heart disease in the region," Professor Shu Qiang, director of the National Clinical Research Center for Child Health, Party Secretary of ZCH and director of the Heart Center, said,“the Children’s Hospital and the Women's Hospital have a common predecessor, Zhejiang Provincial Maternal and Child Health Hospital before 1951. it is believed that under the joint efforts of the two top hospitals, it will effectively promote the overall capacity of fetal heart disease screening, diagnosis and treatment, and reduce infant deaths caused by congenital heart diseases.”
In China, congenital heart disease is one of the leading causes of death in children under the age of five. At present, about 7-8 of every 1000 newborns in China suffer from congenital heart disease, and the incidence of critical congenital heart disease in live births is 2-3‰, accounting for about 25-30% of the total number of congenital heart diseases. ZCH has been committed to building a congenital heart disease treatment network platform in Zhejiang Province for many years. After years of efforts, the team has used Internet + Internet of things technology to form an integrated prenatal and postpartum prevention and control system together with Zhejiang University Women's Hospital and Sir Run Run Shaw Hospital. By weaving the entire screening management of congenital heart disease in Zhejiang Province into "a net", the accurate positioning of the screening track of children in real time is accessible, and sick newborns can be transferred to ZCH in only 2 hours. With the advancement of related work, the harm of congenital heart disease to children has further decreased.
Dr. Xu Weize, assistant director of the National Clinical Research Center for Child Health and assistant president of ZCH, said, "Simple congenital heart disease, almost all can be radically cured by surgery, even complex congenital heart disease, most can also get a good therapeutic effect."
