ZCH Participated in the Development of ISPAD Global Guidelines for Type 2 Diabetes in Children and Adolescents
In December 2024, The International Society for Pediatric and Adolescent Diabetes (ISPAD) published ISPAD Clinical Practice Consensus Guidelines 2024: Type 2 diabetes in children and adolescents in the authoritative journal Hormone Research in Pediatrics. The endocrinology team of ZCH led by Professor Fu Junfen, President of ZCH, participated in the development of ISPAD global guidelines for Type 2 diabetes in children and adolescents.
The guidelines have attracted much attention in global endocrinology society, serving as a programmatic document for pediatric endocrinologists around the world. Professor Fu Junfen, a well-known pediatric endocrinologist participated in the development of ISPAD guidelines as the only expert invited in China. Professor Fu Junfen and her team have long focused on the research and clinical practice in the field of pediatric diabetes and obesity metabolic disease, and have participated in the formulation and update of the guideline for 10 consecutive years, witnessing the professionalism of Chinese scholars in pediatric and adolescent diabetes. Not only that, Professor Fu Junfen also actively participated in the release of the first international clinical practice guidelines on congenital hyperinsulinemic hypoglycemia (CHI) in 2023, demonstrating China's scientific and technological strength on the international stage.
The guidelines are based on the fact that the incidence of type 2 diabetes (T2D) in children and adolescents is on the rise, yet there is a serious lack of prescriptive treatment options. Through the global release of this guideline, the aim is to improve the accuracy and standardization of Type 2 diabetes diagnosis, highlighting the international pediatric juvenile diabetes community's high recognition of the endocrinology team of ZCH. This achievement marks the wide recognition of the influence and contribution of Chinese scholars in the field of international diabetes research. Through this guidelines, the global medical community can better understand the innovative achievements and professional insights of Chinese scholars in the research of children and adolescent diabetes. At the same time, it also provides a new perspective and reference for the diagnosis and treatment of diabetes in children and adolescents around the world, and helps to promote the further development of global diabetes prevention and treatment.
