ZCH Medical Team Participated in the Activity “Warm Children’s Hearts” in Namibia
On the occasion of international Children’s Day, a medical team of the Children’s Hospital, Zhejiang University School of Medicine (ZCH) was invited by the Chinese Embassy in Namibia to give a free medical check for Namibian children themed “Warm Children’s Hearts”, a China-Africa Joint Action, so as to bring health and happiness to children in Namibia. ZCH medical team consists Dr. Ye Jingjing, Director of Ultrasound Department, Dr. Shi Zhuo, an associate chief physician from Cardiac Surgery Department, and Dr. Zhang Baofu from Ultrasound Department, as members of the medical team of 10 doctors from Zhejiang Province.
From May 31 to June 1, the Zhejiang Medical team from ZCH and Zhejiang Provincial Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine, together with the 15th medical team sent to Namibia, conducted free detailed health examinations for more than 100 children at the Namibia Children’s Home, including blood pressure and oxygen saturation tests, cardiopulmonary auscultation, electrocardiogram, cardiac and abdominal ultrasonography and other health services. On behalf of ZCH medical team, Dr. Ye Jingjing donated smart stethoscopes developed by ZCH to local medical staff for the screening of Namibian children with congenital heart diseases. The Children present are very happy to receive Children’s Day gifts.
This free medical check co-hosted and guided by the Chinese Embassies and the First Lady’s Office in Namibia. The First Lady of Namibia came to the Namibia Children’s Home and delivered the keynote speech. Chinese Ambassador to Namibia Mr. Zhao Weiping and the Medical team from Zhejiang Province to Africa attended the event. Ambassador Zhao Weiping pointed out in his speech that this event is an important part of the the “For the Health of Orphans in Africa” program. This year marks the 60th anniversary of the Chinese government's dispatch of medical teams to Africa. In the past 60 years, Chinese medical teams have actively provided various medical services to African people, which have been widely welcomed and praised.
The free medical check activity in Namibia has been strongly supported by Zhejiang University and Zhejiang Provincial Health Commission. Before the visit to Africa, the hospital held a pre-trip meeting to ensure the high level and quality of the completion of the free medical check task.
